I have been a languages teacher for 18 years and a Head of Department for 12. I am passionate about language learning and creating resources has always been a very enjoyable part of my job. When I design a resource my aim is to ensure that its structure provides a step-by-step progression that enables children to learn but above all to enjoy their learning.

This resource aimed at Heads of Department/ faculty, contains 2 documents that can be used as specific and personalised interventions within your area. The Agreement Sheet provides a more holistic support, helping students to identify their skills/ areas for improvement and encouraging them to take responsiblity for their own learning. It is MFL specific but can easily be adapted for other subject areas The Individual Report helps monitor attitudes and learning in the classroom for 4 weeks with a clear point system. This document applies to all subjects and can be adapted. Both these strategies can be implemented in conjunction with whole school systems and are very effective to generate more positive attitude particularly if you can involve learning mentors within your school.

This course is a DIY course which in a nutshell means: • One person (E.g. Head of Department, Curriculum Leader, etc.) familiarises with the course content and materials. • That same person delivers the course to others (E.g. team members), in the process s/he acquires skills as a trainer and gets the option to be rewarded with a validation certificate should s/he want to complete and submit the validation form at the end. Advantages of a DIY course: • Professional development happens at different levels, for different purposes. • It is more cost effective than traditional courses. • It prevents the headache of booking a course and is time effective. • With its flexible format, it can be delivered at any time, as a one-off course or in sections. Each part of the course contains a PowerPoint presentation, trainer guidance and handouts. Also provided are, the validation form and additional templates.
